Haha☺

Bye, I had the best day of my life!’

New Year's Resolution

Happy New Year!! So, it's about time to make a New Year's resolution, right? Not really for me. I am not a huge fan of New Year's resolution not because eveyone makes it and I want to be different but for other reasons.

One reason is that any day of the year is as fresh as New Year's Day. I guess it means something as the first day of the year. But, to me, every morning when I wake up is as new as New Year's Day. So, I'd rather make everyday's resolution than once-a-year New Year's resolution. That way, I won't have to make a big resolution and end up being dissapointed at myself after not being able to accomplish it. It's hard enough for me to do what I decide to do each day. So, I am not going to waste my time thinking what my New Year's resolution is going to be this year.

Have you ever decided on your New Year's resolution a few weeks before New Year's Day after coming up with something that you want to do or you have to do? Or it may be something that you decided you were going to do during that year and found yourself where it wasn't going to happen. But wait! If you know what you want to do now, why don't you start now? If you put it off even a day, there will be more chance of not getting it done than a day before. That one day may cost you. And that one day, it might be too late to do because you don't know what is going to happen tomorrow.

And, if you make a New Year's resolution, it is likely that you would think 'Oh, I still have 360 days til the end of this year' and keep procrastinating. Don't give yourself too much time unless you plan so that you accomplish a smaller part of the big picture everyday or each week and it all comes together at the end.

I am not saying making a New Year's resolution is bad or anything. I am just saying I am not a huge fan of it. All I wanted to say is to live everyday the hardest you could possibley live. That is what I try to do everyday. Why? Once it's happened, I can't take it back. We live on the earth only once. If I have time to spend regretting what I should have done, I'd rather live the hardest so I wouldn't have to regret. And tomorrow is not a promise. We never know what will happen tomorrow or even a few hours from now. There are so many kids who are fighting for their lives. To them, every moment of their life that they are living is precious. And I have seen so many of them living their time the hardest they could. If they can do that, why can't we??

If you have a chance to help others, do it right away. If you have a change to share the gospel, do it now. Because that one day that you send waiting might become a little too late the next day.
LOVE

We use this word, 'LOVE', on a daily-basis. We say "I love you!" or hear someone say that pretty much everyday. But have you felt that it feels kinda empty after you say that? Or have you questioned yourself, "Really?? Do I?" I use it all the time. I actually love using the word, love. I love chocolate. I love ice cream. I love Penn State football. If you know me, you have heard me say these all the time. But what does it really mean to love? Is it the feeling that you have for someone? Is it just used to make someone feel better? Or is it something else? If you think it's enough to say that you love someone to really love someone, you are probably missing the whole thing. You may know what it's like to love someone, but you may not know to love someone.

The word, LOVE, does not just refer to the feeling that you have for someone you love. It is really an active word. It is not about giving your boyfriend/girlfriend a kiss and/or hug when you see them. It is not about say that you love them when you talk on the phone. It is a lot more that any of that.

Most people have their best friend(s). The friends who are always there for you when you need them. And hopefully you are someone's best friend also. When your best friend needs you, you will be willing to help him/her any way you can, right? When your best friend's car breaks down in the middle of freeway and call you for help, you will probably say "Yes." and help him/her out or at least try to. When your best friend is crying at the corner of school hallway, you will ask him/her why, give a hug, or try to help. That is because you love him/her.

But the true ultimate love that you can get is not the love you can get from your best friend or even your family. It is given to you for free. Someone loves you so much that that person has given it to you. Have you ever felt like you have to help your friend because he/she helped you before? I have too.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 The greatest love that you can get is given to you not because of anything else but because God loved you. And it's perfect! He sent His only Son, Jesus, to this world to be crucified on the cross so our sins are forgiven and so we can have life free from sins. Could your dad give up your life because he loved someone so much? Could you give up your own child for someone else that you don't even know?? Well, He knows you even if you do not.

So, what does it really mean to love someone? If you can do the same thing that you would do for your best friend to anyone out there regardless of whether or not you know them, it comes a little closer to it. But not because you have to but because you really care about them and love them. It is hard to do that for someone you don't even know. Think of yourself in a new school that you have just transferred to. You don't know anyone and have to sit alone in a cafeteria and eat lunch. What would it feel like? How would you feel like if someone came up to you and sat with you to eat lunch together? That person would have just made your day. Then, why wouldn't you do the same to the others?? You don't have to do anything amazing to show that you love them and care about them. A little thing that you do may mean a world to someone. It's amazing that how much a little thing can touch someone's heart.

The amazing, incredible, unconditional, bestest, indescribable, .... (you can add as many adjectives as you can think of and it's not even close to be enough) love is all yours but only if you believe in Him.

Remembering Columbine

Ten years ago yesterday, April 20, 1999, 13 high school students were gunned down and killed by 2 other high school students at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. I remember seeing the scene after it happened on TV. Since then, there has been so many gun-shooting incidents around the country. But why does it keep happening?? I have to wonder. Why??

It was not until about 6 years ago that I got to know one of the students who got killed, of course not personally, but through books that were published by her Dad. The books quote some of the personal poems and show illustrations that she wrote and drew in her diary. In one of them, she says that she will make a huge impact in this world. And sure she did. At least, she touched my heart and make an impact on my life. She was just a usual teenager just like anyone else. She was a devoted Christian and lived her life likewise. She believed that, if she reached out to others with kind heart, it would make a ripple effect on others. I believe that she touched many people's heart by doing little things that everyone could do, such as talking to someone new at school and becoming friends with them, offering help to someone who might need it. Sometimes, just a little thing that you say could make a huge impact in life. At the same time, just a little thing that you say could hurt someone.

Parents and families of those 13 (plus 2 shooters), I am sure, are thinking what they would be doing if they were alive. Getting married and having kids. Working a job that they wanted after graduating from college. Still trying to realize their dream. Those days would never come. But I am sure that those high school kids brought lots of memories and joy to the lives of their families. It is really hard to say this especially thinking of those who lost their child. But I still believe that things happen for a reason.

The most of us take everything for granted. But tomorrow is not a promise but just a chance.

But why does this keep happening? Is it gun ownership that needs to be restricted or prohibited? Her Dad does not think so. And neither do I. It is something that they have in their heart. I don't even understand why someone could even point a gun at someone else. That scares me. It is something in their heart that needs to be fixed or helped. You can talk to the President and try to talk him into prohibiting gun ownership. But so what? There would still be someone who would find a way to kill someone. How could the parents of those two guys who killed 13 other in Columbine not know anything about what they were trying to to? How could they not know that they might have needed help. What about their friends?? There got to be a reason why they turned into a killer. There got to be something that made them. Now that they are gone, we will never know why. But if we try to help each others out, if we are kind enough to offer help, if we are able to reach out to others and be kind, a tragic event like this may happen less often.

A sad thing is that it will be forgotten as days go by. The Virginia Tech tragic shooting was not that long ago. But no one talks about it anymore jut like it never happened. If we do not change, it will keep happening. We need to challenge and help each other out. If your friend needs help, why don't you help them out? It's got to start somewhere. And keep trying and trying. It will make a huge difference somewhere sometime.

I am not perfect. I do not do that all the time. And I regret that I did not sometimes. Everyone has the same time everyday. It's all up to you how you use it. If you use even a small portion of your time for someone else who can use your help, I am sure that you will feel accomplished and a lot better. You don't have to do anything special. If you see someone sitting alone in cafeteria at your school, say hi and talk to him/her. If you see someone new, then, talk to them and become friends. If you see someone unhappy, ask them why and offer help. That little thing can turn some one's life around.

I realize how much time I am wasting after thinking of things I can do for someone else. One last thing....I could never imagine what it would be like to lose my own child ( I don't have one though yet). But God gave up His only Son for us even before we knew Him. That's how great His love is. And He did is all for us.

Seeing The Positives

Lately, I am getting tired of watching ESPN. All I hear about is 'steroids', 'gunshot', 'arrested', ....... Don't they have anything better to talk about on TV? Can they just once talk about something good that people do? It is a lot easier to see people do bad things than see them do good things. And if you see someone do one thing wrong, then, he/she will be labeled as a bad person. But I don't think that's true. There are lots of lots of people who are doing great things in our lives that are buried underground and no one ever sees. I am not just talking about athletes doing great things but just people around me and you.

Here is one girl who is in high school. She drinks occasionally (hope not too often). She does things that would upset any parent. But she is smiley with a kind heart. She is not afraid to talk to anyone and willing to help people out. She gets emotional sometimes. Even when she is frustrated, she tries to hide it (but I can tell she is). Of course, underage drinking is not right. But she has a lot of good things in her that many people may not have. Some people may say if they find out that she is drinking that 'oh, she is drinking. what a bad girl.' But wait a minute. Just don't put a label on her that says 'a bad girl'. What about other positives things that she does like volunteering at church.

When adults see children do something wrong. They will try to fix it. But when they see them do great things, how many people will even be willing to help them do better things. They will be more than likely to let it go. Teachers, sports coaches, youth group leaders, .... whoever working with children better pay more attention to see what those kids are doing. It's easy to find out what they do wrong. But it takes more to find out what they do right and great things that they do. And if you pay attention, there are many things that you can learn from them. If you are one of those who think that adults are teachers and kids are students, you are WRONG!! Because kids are also teachers to adults. Sports Illustrated spends one page each issue talking about amateur athletes who have accomplished something great. I wish they would spend more time and pages like that.

Just A Thought

Just a little thought of mine as a college sport fan (more like Penn State fan). BCS in college football is NOT WORKING!! The purpose of the BCS system is to pick top 2 teams to play for the national title and to avoid co-champions. First of all, there have been co-national champions since BCS was invented (when USC won the AP title). Next, no one seems to figure out who the top 2 teams are. Let's say the season ended today. Florida should be ranked number one. No justification necessary. But who's number two? It should come down to all the one loss teams and 3 undefeated teams outside the BCS conference (Utah, Ball State, Boise State). It's impossible. Third, the worst things is that teams like Utah will never get a chance to play for the national title after going 12-0.

So, here's my thought. 1)Pick 8 teams in the final ranking and do the play-offs. 2)Give automatic bids to teams who've won their own conference and who are ranked top 10 in the final ranking regardless of conferences that they are in. 3)At-large bids go to schools ranked high in the ranking.

Let's say there will be no upsets the rest of the season and Florida and Texas both win the conference title games. The final ranking will look like....1)Florida 2)Texas 3)Oklahoma 4)USC 5)Alabama 6)Utah 7)Texas Tech 8)Penn State 9)Boise State 10)Ohio State. The conference champions in the top 10 gets an automatic bid which includes 1)Florida 2)Texas 6)Utah 8)Penn State and 9)Boise State. This leaves 3 spots for at-large bids. If you pick the top 3 teams left out, it will be 3)Oklahoma 4)USC and 5)Alabama. There may still be an argument saying that Texas Tech deserves to be in it. But this way, almost all the undefeated and one loss teams will at least get a chance to play for the title. They can add 2 more bowl games for the semifinals or they can keep that withing the BCS bowls and play the semis, who cares. Plus, students do not have to take a month break from football. Even high schools have a play-off system. Why not in D-I A? D-I AA does it too.

How fun would this be?? It's a lot easier to pick top 8 than top 2, isn't it? There is too much money involved in this BCS thing. If this is all about money and not about student athletes, it is really really sad. I'd rather see traditional BigTen vs Pac10 champs Rose Bowl.

A Difference Between Ordinary And Extraordinary

'A difference between ordinary and extraordinary is nothing more than doing something extra.' I saw this on the back of someone's t-shirt and I fell in love with it. Because you don't have to turn the world upside down to be extraordinary, you don't have to save lives of 1000 people to be extraordinary. By doing a little thing, you can turn 'ordinary' into 'extraordinary'.

Have you heard of the name, Rachel Joy Scott? About 10 years ago, lives of more than 10 teenagers were taken away by the hands of two high school students. She was one of those who were killed. She was just an ordinary teenager just like anyone else. But she did something 'extra' in her life. So did her Dad. I learned a little about her life as a Christian from the books that her Dad wrote. She was not like a super girl with super powers or anything. But she did little things that not many people were willing to do or able to do. When she saw someone sitting alone at her high school cafeteria, she sat down with him/her and spent time with that person. When she saw someone who might need help, she asked if she could help. She committed herself to reaching out to others because she believed that what she did would affect others' heart. And it did. This may not sound very special thing to do. There are many people with kind heart like her. But, to the person that was reached out by her, what she did might have felt like the best thing that happened in her/his life. What if you were a high school kid who was new to the school? You were having trouble making friends and eating lunch alone everyday. That would be awful, at least to me. You would feel really lonely, wouldn't you? What if someone like her came to say hi to you and made friends with you. That would be awesome. She/he might feel like an angel to you.

You never know what is around you. There are so many opportunities that you can turn yourself into someone 'extraordinary'. Adding something extra into cheesecake that you are making can make it super good. It does not take much to be someone extraordinary.

She did what God called her to do; reaching out to the others. She thought she could make a huge difference and she did. And I believe everyone can.

Joe Paterno

When people talk about good college football coaches, they talk about how many wins they have, how well they can run their offense and defense, etc. Of course, it is their job to make a good football team, but I don't think that should be their only thing to worry about. College football players are college students who are playing football for school, not the other way around.

Everyone knows that Penn State coach, Joe Paterno, is the winningest coach in college football I-A history.(it's called something else by the way) People wonder when he will retire. He always says that he doesn't know to the question. I think he likes to coach and he wants to keep coaching. What I like about him the most is that he not only coaches football but he teaches life to the students. He always puts school first before football. That is why he does not leave for away games until the students get out of classroom on Friday unless they have to go early. It's been 'classroom first, then football.' He sees this coaching job as an opportunity to reach out to those students and teach them what kinda person they will be. He helps them grow and become a person who can do the same to the others. He turned down the New England Patriots job for this reason and he donated lots of money to the school. He does not get paid millions of dallors like some other football coaches down south. But he keeps coaching because he likes it.

He's built a great football program. But he also is a great person that loves to reach out to the others. He cares about his students. And he likes to help them out any way he can. When he is gone, we will find out what we miss. I really hope that he will keep coaching as long as he likes to.

We Are.......Penn State!!

TCD #1

TCD is short for Ted's Chocolate Diet. There are so many products on how to lose weight, loose body fat, and get slim. But do you really want to give up your favorite food? Because I would not!!! If you are so superly obese that your life is in danger, you will have to do something and may have to give up something you love. But you do not have to if you just want to lose 10lb or get in a better shape. Here's how my diet works.

1) Eat what you want.
Yes, eat what you want to eat. If you like chocolate like me, why don't you? If you love cookies, you can have them. The key is to keep it balanced. If your calorie intake is 2,000kcal/day, you just need to burn that much calories a day in order to maintain your current body weight. If you want to lose weight, then, you just need to burn more calories than what you eat.
Don't get me wrong, though. You do need to take required nutrients. After that, what you eat is all up to you.

2) Eat when you want.
Right, we are all supposed to eat 3 meals a day. 'Snacks are not good for you' is what your Mom and Dad say, right? But the reality is that many people skip breakfast and snack between meals. I think it is important to have regular meals, one in the morning, one around noon, and one in the evening. But who said that it is wrong to snack? Again, the key is to keep it balanced. You can have 2 meals and 3 snacks, or 3 meals and 4 snacks. What matters is how much calories you take and how much of that you spend. What I would recommend is that you probably should not eat late at night or right before you go to bed.

I eat ice cream in the morning. I am kind of a person who likes to eat deserts before eating meals. And I eat chocolate everyday because I love it. I still wear a pair of jeans that I bought when I was in high school. My body weight has been about the same after I stopped growing. I am healthy. Life is too short not to eat what you like. Just remember....Keep it balanced.
Oh, and one more thing. A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands. Just eat what you want and have some fun!!

Only A Prelude

Wow, the last few week have been amazing! Not that I have done anything special. But to watch those athletes competing one another at the Olympic Trials was amazing. It began with gymnastics. There was one gymnast that everyone would expect to win the gold medal just like Carly Patterson did 4 years ago. And there were a couple of oldies who had to face disappointing results 4 years ago. And they should be on their way to the first Olympics and possible medals. But only 6 of those training at the training center in Texas will get to go to Beijing this summer. For many of those, this is the only chance. After all the training and practices that they have to go through even to get to this point, they all deserve a bunch of respects.

Then, at the Track and Field trials, there was a 16 year-old girl who made the final in 1500m. She also set a high school American record and is on her way to Poland to compete at the Junior Worlds. The crowd loved her chanting 'Come to Oregon, Come to Oregon!!' Personally, I hope she will go somewhere else. But it's up to her to decide. Or she may not compete at college level like Allyson Felix. Lots of congrats to Breaux, Dwight, Lisa, Trevell for all the success that they have had in their career regardless of the results of the trials.

In the swimming trials, again a 15 year-old girl made the team. In the same event that Katie Hoff competed when she was 15 4 years ago. Not to mention, she is the youngest one on the team. On the other hand, this 41 year-old woman not only made the team but won 2 events, in one of which she set an American record. It's almost impossible to think that someone can compete at that level at the age of 41 and she is at her best that age. The most of the top swimmers are teenagers or in their early 20s. This is just amazing. How in the world did she do that?!

And the conclusion of this amazing week full of sports was the Wimbledon final. That went far beyond my expectation. I expected it to be somewhat competitive and fun. But that was undescribable! What a match they played. Amazing shot after shot after shot from crazy position.

Sporting events are wonderful. But there are always someone who lose their once in a life time chance. In Track and Field, top 3 goes to Beijing with Olympic A standard time. In swimming, top 2 advance. There is no free pass even for the athletes who have an American record. If they are not on top of their game and lose, they are done. There is no second chance. This makes it even more dramatic.

After all this great moments and performances, this is only a prelude. You can expect the even better when top athletes from all over the world gather in Beijing on August 8, 2008. More than once I dreamed about being an Olympian. Now that dream is shattered. But I'd love to be a part of it sometime, maybe as a member of the medical team.

AZ Soccer Camp

It's summer time again! This means summer camp time! I just got back from soccer camp in Prescott, AZ, where it's a little bit cooler than here in Phoenix area. I did this camp for 2 or 3 days last July, but this time, I was there for 2 weeks. To be honest, it was very tiring. But at the same time, it was fun!! Being around about 150 kids was FUN!! The youngest kids were 8 and the oldests were 13 or 14. There were some trouble makers, some crazy, some funny, but they were all good kids and fun kids.

This year, unlike last year's camp in Wisconsin, was a little easier and less crazier. There were not many kids who got hurt and they did not keep me too busy. Yeah, they did give me enough to do though. I had to deal with some homesick kids who were crying in the middle of night. I had to take care of kids who really got sick and had a fever. I had to take care of injured kids as well. Again this year just like last year, it was sometimes hard to get to know all of the kids. I did get to know some of them who came to me almost everyday. And I really enjoyed spending time with them.

To me, it is not so hard to take care of injuries. Most of the times, I can find out what may be wrong with it and do what needs to be done. But each kid is different. They react differently and they express differently. Some may easily get traumatised even when the injury is not so serious. I need to be careful what I say. Some kids are more sensitive than others. I think taking care of children as a child kind of requires you to be back as a child. You need that heart and mind that children have to understand them. Sometimes, I feel like as an adult we have lost lots of things that we used to have when we were kids. That really makes me sad. As we grew up, we left pieces of childness behind. Everytime I work with kids, I wish that they would not lose that. Look at their smile, for example, their smile has something that we don't have in it. It seems so much brighter and purer and more transparent. They all come from different backgrounds, different family, etc. But when they smile, that means one thing, happiness.

I am going to say this one more time, I know there is no perfection that exists in this world. But I truly think that kids' smile is perfect because it is a perfect gift from God. And everytime I get a chance to work with kids, I re-realize that I LOVE kids!! I can't wait to go back there again for one more camp session in July.

Camp Lake Owen

I recently came back from working at a kids' camp in northern Wisconsin. There were a whole bunch of kids from different states and with different backgrounds. I really had a great time not because the weather was nice or I got to relax or anything but because I got to meet a lot of campers over there. I worked as one of the medical team consisted of 2 nurses and 2 athletic trainers. They were also fun to work with.

Well, I was there for 2 weeks working with those campers. They kept us busy...... Lots of taping ankles and injuries that we had to take care of. Some cases were harder to evaluate than others. From simple ankle sprain to ACL sprain to head injury............. But that was not the most challenging thing to me. The most challenging thing was to get to know each kid within a short period of time. Most kids stayed for a week since it was a week-long camp session. But some stayed 2 or 3 weeks. There were propably close to 300 campers...I think. To be honest, it's almost impossible to get to know them all in a week. And I didn't get to meet a lot of campers that were not injured. But to me, you cannot work with kids unless you know them and about them. Each kid is different. They all have a different personality, charactor, and they are all from different backgrounds. For example, it makes it harder to evaluate an injury if you don't know how the kid usually reacts to an injury. Some may overreact. Some may just cry. And they will have hard time describing it in words. So, it is our job to get as much as information as we can get and take care of the kid. Not just the injury but the kid. Some are shy and some are nervous talking to someone that he/she doesn't know.

When we got busy, I was not able to spend as much time taking care of them as I wanted to. They may have felt ignored, but I promise I DID NOT. I tried. I could have done a better job with it. So, if I am given another chance to work there at the camp, I am going to do a better job than this time.

But at the end, I really had a wonderful time. It was great to see the campers smiling and having fun. It was nice to be able to be around those kids and get to know them a little. At the end, I LOVE WORKING WITH KIDS!!! and I love them! There is nothing better than seeing their smile. The Bible says that there is no such thing as perfection besides God. But kids' smile is PERFECT because it is a perfect gift given by God.

Hi

Thank you for visiting my blog page!!
